The innovative “METRONOMOS” proposal, coordinated by the Municipality of Ioannina with the support of the Municipality of Kozani, SAT, Break Even Consulting and the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development of the National Observatory of Athens, was distinguished at European level.
Description
The development of the “METRONOMOS” proposal was carried out within the NetZeroCities programme, which is part of the European Horizon Europe initiative, with the aim of providing Greek cities with the necessary tools to implement climate change mitigation and promote urban sustainability. The NetZeroCities programme brings together more than 300 cities across Europe. The Ioannina and Kozani municipalities are the only Greek cities participating through the “METRONOMOS” proposal.
The project will make use of a state-of-the-art tool developed by the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development, which uses open data and satellite technologies to monitor the development of pollutants and climate-related actions. The tool monitors the energy performance of buildings, the use of solar energy and emissions from road transport. It also incorporates electrification and green mobility capabilities, creating a comprehensive model for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Role of Break Even Consulting
Break Even Consulting plays a key role in the development and pilot implementation of the METRONOMOS platform in the cities of Ioannina and Kozani, ensuring its functionality and adaptation to the specific needs of both cities. At the same time, it participates in project management and coordination, the design of technical specifications, and the creation of application scenarios for sustainability and future platform expansion. In addition, it contributes to evaluating results and strengthening citizen participation.
