Break Even Consulting is preparing the Municipal Emissions Reduction Plan (MERP) for the Municipality of Serifos, based on the requirements of the National Climate Law (Law 4936/2022), as amended and in force, and in particular Article 16 concerning Local Authorities of the first degree. More specifically, the company calculates and assesses the Municipality’s carbon footprint, with 2019 as the reference year, and proposes actions to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The preparation of the MERP is a prerequisite for the evaluation of proposals submitted by Local Authorities of the first degree for the implementation of programmes through financial instruments in the fields of energy saving and climate change. |
Description
Through a detailed inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, the MERP provides the Municipality with a complete picture of its climate footprint. Based on this analysis, a framework of specialised interventions is developed aimed at reducing emissions by 30% by 2030 (compared to 2019), promoting energy efficiency and the adoption of sustainable practices. These actions are integrated into a broader strategic framework, aligned with national and European commitments to climate neutrality by 2050.
The carbon footprint assessment is based on the principles of the international standard ISO 14064-1:2018, covering all fuel consumption and activities under the Municipality’s financial and administrative control. The inventory is the basis for designing targeted interventions to achieve a substantial reduction in emissions.
The MERP sets realistic and measurable targets up to 2025, while also establishing additional strategic targets for the period up to 2030. In addition, it lays the foundations for identifying available financial instruments and programmes that enhance energy savings and facilitate the practical implementation of the plan.
