Break Even Consulting, acting as Sustainability Advisor to the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), has prepared the Carbon Footprint Report for the reference year 2022 and developed a customised Sustainability Enhancement Action Plan aimed at reducing the HOC’s carbon footprint by 40% by 2030, across all its activities and managed facilities.
Description
The Committee’s carbon footprint report covers all direct and indirect emissions, Scope 1, 2 & 3, arising from all HOC activities, including its facilities, employee commuting, business travel, procurement, waste, transportation, its vehicle fleet and athletes’ participation in competitions. Through the assessment, the sources of the highest contribution to the carbon footprint are identified, enabling the development of appropriate reduction strategies. The study was prepared in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14064 and the GHG Protocol.
Overall, as part of the project, greenhouse gas emissions were recorded across:
- 16 GHG emission source categories
- 2 facilities – the Committee’s offices and the Panathenaic Stadium
Solution
Based on the assessment of the HOC’s carbon footprint results, Break Even Consulting developed a customised Emissions Reduction Action Plan aimed at achieving a 40% reduction in the HOC’s carbon footprint by 2030. The plan is structured around 19 targeted and measurable energy- and resource-saving actions, specifically designed to meet the Committee’s needs. Implementing these actions is expected to lead to the Sustainability Action Plan’s targets, strengthening the Committee’s sustainability across four key areas: energy consumed at its facilities, transportation, procurement equipment and waste management.
- 19 emission reduction actions by 2030
- 2 interim assessment milestones for the implementation of the action plan
