Break Even Consulting has undertaken the support of the Municipality of Oropedio Lasithiou in ensuring its compliance with the requirements of the National Climate Law (Law 4936/2022), as specified in Article 16, which concerns first-level Local Authorities (OTA).
Description
In this context, the Municipal Emissions Reduction Plan (MERP) was prepared for the Municipality, using 2019 as the reference year. The MERP was developed to record and certify the Municipality’s carbon footprint, in accordance with the requirements of the Law, and includes proposals for future actions to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These actions aim to align the Municipality with the targets set by the Greek Government, contributing to the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050.
For the calculation of the carbon footprint, all activities within the Municipality’s geographical boundaries for which it has financial and administrative responsibility were taken into account. The analysis was carried out based on the internationally recognised ISO 14064-1:2018 standard, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the results.
The plan sets specific emission reduction targets in the short term (up to 2025) and the long term (up to 2030). In addition, it includes measures and actions to be implemented by the Municipality in order to achieve these targets.
Break Even Consulting supported the Municipality throughout all stages of the project, from data collection and processing to the calculation of the carbon footprint and the design of mitigation strategies. Through this collaboration, the Municipality of Oropedio Lasithiou gains the necessary tools to improve its environmental performance and ensure its participation in financing programmes and energy-related initiatives.
