The Innovation Office of the Region of Peloponnese participated in the 21st Annual Research Seminar on the Information Society and Knowledge Economy, which took place in Syros, one of the country’s most important annual events for innovation, technology and regional development. The Seminar is organized by the INFOSTRAG Group of the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) of the National Technical University of Athens and the Cyclades Chamber of Commerce, with the participation of organizations such as Eurobank and Break Even Consulting, and includes thematic sessions on Regional Development & Entrepreneurship, Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence, Technology Transfer and University Transformation, as well as R&D Policies & the Production Model.
In this context, the Innovation Office delivered two presentations. Ms. Tzina Tzami, Deputy Coordinator of the Innovation Office of the Region of Peloponnese, gave a presentation entitled “Innovation Office: The Role of the Quadruple Helix in the Transformation of the Region of Peloponnese”, presenting the Office’s work, structure and objectives, as well as the key actions through which it supports businesses, research organizations and public bodies in the Region, strengthening their cooperation and contributing to the development of a more competitive and outward-looking innovation ecosystem.
Ms. Eleni Mitsou, Coordinator of the Innovation Office of the Region of Peloponnese, then presented the joint paper “From Patents to Smart Specialisation: Mapping Technological and Research Activity”, based on a study by the National Documentation Centre, the European Patent Office’s Patent Landscape Mapping, and research conducted by the University of Peloponnese. The study recorded and analyzed more than 600 research projects of the University of Peloponnese, comparing them with international technological trends and patent data, with the aim of identifying areas where local research excels or where there are gaps, as well as specific technological solutions developed by the University that are already mature enough to be utilized by businesses in the Region. In this way, the study provides the Region with a clear framework of priorities, enabling targeted research and funding decisions to focus on areas with the greatest potential for real-world impact.
The two presentations provided a comprehensive picture of the Innovation Office: the first highlighted its role as a collaborative hub between businesses, universities, public bodies and citizens, while the second demonstrated the research data and technological capabilities on which this connection is built. The Innovation Office’s participation in the Research Seminar reinforces its broader mission to connect academic research with the real economy through the systematic strengthening of cooperation between universities, businesses, research organizations and public authorities in the Region of Peloponnese.
