Dr. Markos Margaritis, President of Break Even Consulting, gave an interview to journalist Stavros Voulas on the TV show “Local Government”, focusing on the green transition of municipalities. During the interview, practical measures that can be implemented by municipalities to promote the green transition were examined. In addition, important issues concerning municipalities were highlighted, including energy management, water management, and waste management, all of which require a holistic approach. According to Dr. Margaritis, these issues require integrated planning and effective implementation.
Furthermore, Dr. Margaritis emphasized the challenge of maturing and implementing projects by municipalities, as well as the difficulty of seeking funding without the necessary project maturity and in the absence of studies and plans, despite the number of available funding tools.
Regarding green development, the company’s President stressed that it is necessary to reduce the energy consumption of municipalities through the development of Municipal Emissions Reduction Plans (MEERPs). He also highlighted the implementation of measures to reduce their carbon footprint. More specifically, he emphasized that municipalities must have MEERPs in place if they wish to be eligible to participate in the funding process.
