Mr. Tsakanikas, Professor of Economic Evaluation of Technological Systems, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at NTUA and Mr. Oikonomopoulos, Head of the Environmental Policy Strategy Department at Break Even Consulting, published an article entitled “New Technologies for the Recycling of Flexible Food Packaging” on businessdaily.gr.
Following four years of research, the European project CIRCULAR Food Pack (Circular Packaging for Direct Food Contact Applications) has developed new processes for recycling flexible multilayer food packaging made from polyethylene. The relevant feasibility studies show that the recycling price of polyethylene film from mixed waste at the end of its life cycle is quite competitive compared with the current market price of virgin polyethylene, and consumers appear willing to pay a small price premium, provided that it is reasonable.
