Within the framework of the European METRONOMOS project, and with the participation of representatives from the National Observatory of Athens and Break Even Consulting, two participatory workshops were held with the project’s partner municipalities (Ioannina and Kozani), aiming to co-design the project’s priorities. The main objective was to identify priority thematic areas for sustainable mobility, green spaces, buildings, climate and nature-based solutions (Nature-Based Solutions – NbS).
Initially, the METRONOMOS project and the capabilities of the thematic prioritisation tool were presented in detail, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of its methodology, key tools and the expected impact of the project. Particular emphasis was placed on linking METRONOMOS with the Climate Contracts of the Municipalities of Ioannina and Kozani, highlighting the role of the project as a key supporting mechanism for the implementation and monitoring of local climate targets.
Subsequently, thematic working groups were organised for each priority area, operating as participatory dialogue platforms where proposals were collectively processed and evaluated. This process encouraged the active participation of citizens, local government officials and other local stakeholders, ensuring that the proposed solutions respond to the actual needs and specific characteristics of local communities.
In addition, feedback sessions were held for the project’s digital platform, during which targeted comments and suggestions for improvement were collected, actively contributing to further enhancing its functionality and usability.
Through the workshops, participants’ priorities, concerns and proposals were recorded, ensuring that the project’s actions are aligned with broader local development and environmental policies, while strengthening cooperation and the overall effectiveness of the interventions.
The METRONOMOS project provides cities with a unified digital tool for smart and evidence-based decision-making, supporting the implementation and monitoring of their Climate Contracts. Through the creation of data, climate risk assessment and the design of targeted interventions, it guides cities towards achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
